QUANTUM WORLD TOUR IS PART OF EVENTS CELEBRATING CERN’s 60th ANNIVERSARY
The year 2014 holds a particular significance for CERN : on 29 September it will be exactly 60 years since the Organization was founded. CERN was established after the Second World War by a handful of Europe’s leading scientists who saw an opportunity to construct an international laboratory for fundamental research that would bring nations together through science.
QUANTUM is one of the events offered for everyone in Switzerland and CERN’S Members States to celebrate the 60 years of CERN and provide a great opportunity for exchanges between the scientific community and the general public.
QUANTUM, created on the site of the CMS Experiment in september 2013 a part of Cern Open days and in collaboration with Forum Meyrin is now embarking on a world tour in 2014. After France, Uruguay and Brazil in May, Chile, Peru, United-States, Canada, Colombia, Brazil in October and November, QUANTUM will return to Switzerland at the Arsenic theatre in Lausanne in november before going to Peru. Cie Gilles Jobin is on world tour with QUANTUM : about 80’000 km in 17 cities and 8 countries. After having performed in France, Uruguay and Brazil in May, QUANTUM travels on to Bulgaria in August for the One Dance Week in Pvoldiv the 30th.
In October and for over 2 months, Gilles Jobin and his company will start an American tour at the prestigious BAM Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York co-presented by BAM 2014 Next Wave Festival, FIAF’s Crossing the Line Festival 2014 and the Hermès Foundation’s (Fondation d’entreprise Hermès) New Settings program. Swissnex at ODC Theater in San Francisco and The Dance Centre in Vancouver Canada are to be followed by the Festival Danzalborde in Santiago and Valparaiso in Chile, the Forum Internacional de Dança in Belo Horizonte and the Festival Panorama and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. From Brazil to Europe for a historical focus on Gilles Jobin’s work at l’Arsenic in Lausanne : QUANTUM and his first group piece A+B=X created in 1997. Open workshops and conferences will be organized around the program. Cie Gilles Jobin returns straight away to South America to play QUANTUM at Festival de Artes Escenicas de Lima in Peru, and for some dates in Colombia.
